How to do a traceroute using Windows XP/7/8/10?

Problem/Summary

This article explains how to use the traceroute program within Windows XP/7/8/10. A Traceroute is a TCP/IP utility which allows users to ascertain how long route packets take to reach a specified destination.

Steps

  • Click Start > Run
  • Enter in "cmd" and press enter (your command window should now be open)
  • In the command windows type "tracert [address]" and press enter

Your traceroute should now be running, it may take 1-2 minutes to complete.



Note: If we have requested the trace route data please copy it by right clicking on the title bar at the top of the command prompt and clicking edit. You may now select text, once selected to copy it to your clipboard simply right click.
